It has quite a while since I last posted an update on this page. To tell the truth, I have been busy-----------very busy lately! As have all the members of the 3cmc. Once our Flip's Mardi Gras Cruise In was over, there was no time to relax. The very next weekend was the 2nd Annual Hooters Show and Shine, which proved very successful and drew 88 registered cars. There was over a one hundred on the lot but not everyone came up and registered. Our co-host, the GM High Performance Club was a tremendous help in making this such a great event. March 14 was scheduled to be our first Steak n Shake Cruise In but rain forced the cancellation that weekend. March calmed down towards the end of the month, as our club skipped the monthly Flip's Cruise In that month.
The first week of April was our usual monthly meeting with plans being made for what would be our first Steak n Shake cruise in for Easter weekend. Even so we still had 34 cars for the evening with the weather turning a little cold around 7 pm. The highlight of April was going to Birmingham for the 45th Anniversary Show at Barbers Motorsports Park. Our club was responsible for getting Gov. Bob Riley to officially proclaim April 17 as Mustang Day in Alabama, and copies of the Proclamation were presented to Ford Motor Company and the MCA at opening ceremonies. The 3 day event was outstanding, as many of our members were MCA volunteers for that weekend helphing out. Everyone got real good up close looks at the new 2010 Mustang. April ended with the next weekend at Flip's with our club again hosting. We continued to theme of the the 45th Anniversary and had 79 cars registered with 116 counted on the lot. Highly successful night. We had birthday cake to go around for everyone, gave out many awards for the night. We gave plaques to our Grand Marshall, Bob Messick, our Guests of Honor Jill and Tommy Stanley of the Southern Stangs, and our host for the event, Phillip of Flip's. All music that night was from the year 1964. We closed out April on a very high note.
May has not slowed down. May 2 we co-hosted again with GM over at the Farmers Market Marketfest Craft Fair. May 5 was our Cinco de Mayo Cruise In at LaBambas Mexican Cafe, and by May 7 it was time for our regular meeting. Unfortunately, the floods in Montgomery that morning made it very difficult for most members to get to our meeting site. May 8 was a fun day for 12 members of our club, as we attended Picture Day at the State Capitol to get our picture taken with Gov. Riley for issuing our proclamation. The governor took time to personally shake hands with each member and spoke to each of us in attendance. Barbara Hopson was lucky enough to receive the Governor's lapel pin he was wearing that day. Chris Daughtry also received a special coin from the Governor. This will have to be an annual event on our calendar from now on. May 9 several of us traveled to Alabaster for a NAPA Auto Parts Cruise In. 3 of our club cars placed in the Top 10 that day. That evening was time for another Steak n Shake Cruise In. May 16 was open for most members, but I chose to travel to Union City, GA for the annual Gene Evans Ford Show hosted by Tara Mustang Club. It rained off and on all day, but I took home a 1st Place plaque in my division. All this in May, and the month is still not over----yet to come is the Harley Davidson show on the 23rd and Flip's on the 30th. With so many things going on at 3cmc, everyone has the opportunity to always have an event to participate in. And from the looks of my calendar, June will be just at busy. Don't miss out on the fun! !
Earlier tonight our club hosted our very first cruise in at Flip's. I beleive the weather had some effect on the turnout, but considering everything the 1st Annual Mardi Gras Cruise In was very successful. All the success for this belongs to the great members of our club. We had plenty of help show up early for decorationg and lots of help in everything we did. Special thanks go out to Keith Norris for handling the 50/50, Ken & Debra Carter for doing the registration, and Cindy Lowery for setting up and preparing for the King Cake Celebration. By the way, 3cmc crowned our first Queen of Mardi Gras -- Debra Carter. We selected the Top 5 cars of the cruise in and before the night ended picked a 1976 Trans Am as the Car of the Month, owned by Ronnie Ladet of the GM High Performance Club. Special thanks go out to our friends at the Capitol City Corvette Club, the GM High Performance Club, and the Capital City Street Rod Club for coming out tonight and joining the celebration. We picked up 2 new members for our club at the cruise in, Robert Briggs and Cameron Williamson. Tonite was the first official use of our brand new sound system, which went very well. We also played music without the use of any CD's, as all music was set up, mixed, and played from a laptop. I think all went very well. But there is no time to enjoy our success---------as now we begin final preparations for the 2nd Annual Hooters Show and Shine next Saturday, which we will co-host with GMHP. And once again, we will call upon our members to perform as great as they did tonight in making that a great show. See everyone at Hooters!
The new year has gotten off to a great start for the Tri-County Mustang Club. Earlier this week, the annual meeting of club presidents was held at Flip's Uptown Grill to divide up the months for each club to host the cruise ins. Our club was happy to come away from the meeting with 3 dates on the calendar. 3cmc will host the months of February, April, and September. This is very good news for a club that is only six months old. As I write this entry we have about 45 days to prepare for our first cruise in, the February one. Hopefully the weather will be good that night for a big turnout. The officers have gotten together and selected a theme for the cruise in: Mardi Gras. Now if you check the calendar you will find that Mardi Gras is February 24 in 2009, and our cruise in is February 28. Frankly we decided that we like Fat Tuesday so much we are going to extend it to what we are going to call Fat Saturday. Actually many of us will be participating in the Millbrook Mardi Gras parade and this will give us another chance to use our decorations. Something different. But then again this is a different Mustang club. And thats how we want it to be. Something different. As the months go forward we have many opportunities for our club to grow and expand. This cruise in is just the first of many fun times for our group. Thank you members----- for being a part of this club.
